Kates” on the other side–I believe this instrument was special made for this person, but I have not been able to confirm this–( please see note at end of listing )I also believe this is the original finish on this horn–it is worn in some places, but is remarkable overall–( many players & repairmen believe that when you refinish an instrument, you make it look pretty & new again, but you take away from the sound quality that the horn has developed over the years )This is a unique, one of a kind instrument, made in 1925 for then 15 year old Kenneth C. Kates, when C.G.Conn was a top quality instrument manufacturer-This instrument is a great player or collector piece-Serial # 220874 & 2HActual instrument in picturesStock # T103Special Note: Two fellow E-Bayers have been kind enough to do some research & the following is what they have found.#1: This trombone was most likely engraved by Julius Steinberg, who was the Master Engraver for C.G.Conn company during the time of it’s production.  Since it is personalized, it is a “one of a kind” instrument.  Mr. Kates owned this instrument from 1925 to 1997, when he passed away.  #2: Mr. Kates attended such prestigious schools as, St. Stephens College, where he earned an A.B.  Also Columbia University.  He was a graduate Assistant @ Duke University, earning a A.M.  He was also a University Fellow @ Duke.  He then attended Dickenson Seminary and finally, Lycoming, where he became an “advisor”.  He then became a Parasitologist @ the Department of Agriculture, working with  organisms that feed off plants & animals where they live.He was 86 when he passed in South Florida in early 1997.What a unique man, with a unique instrument.  I wonder what stories this trombone could tell us if only it could talk.Thank you Mr. Kates for taking such good care of this fine instrument.NOTE: Use the “buy it now” option to avoid losing out on this instrument, or getting into a bidding war !!Note #3: Another E-Bayer who has bought & sold trombones for 10+ years added that the model is a “2H”, Professional trombone.
