1950’s() Hei Selmer Paris “special” Model 23 Professional Tenor Trombone

Straight from our brass (and silver) instrument repair shop, our USED horns are brought back to life…All major dents are removed, joints re-soldered (if needed), patches repaired (if necessary) and the slides reworked.  Our horns may be buffed, but all are hand polished to a good shine and are in good playable condition.  For the collector who is looking for an instrument; we try to keep the original parts whenever possible; if the playability is good, we feel it should be left to the buyer’s discretion to replace parts as desired.  We are proud to offer this refurbished instrument for sale. We have tried to describe it as it is, and have shown what we can in the pictures allowed. We are happy to answer any questions asked.  #78/2016

Up for sale is a ’50’s(?) Henri Selmer Paris Model 23 “Special” Professional Tenor Trombone, serial # 1486. Notoriously difficult to find definitive serial number lists to determine the accurate age, I have researched and my best guess is that this horn was made in the fifties or close to. This is a fine instrument Made in France, one of the best…with very nice engraving, but visually, the engraving is less crisp at the top of the bell.  This instrument definitely plays well and is made of yellow brass and solid nickel silver. The slides are both marked with matching serial #’s and Model 23 “Special”. There are various minor dings and scratching on the instrument with light pitting on the upper bell. The minor pitting at the grips is normal. The slide action is good, with very good compression.  The stockings are in good condition and show very light wear.  This instrument is not lacquered; therefore, this instrument may have to be polished every few months, if played often (we recommend using Weiman METAL Polish). This trombone comes with a matching Henri Selmer Paris “Special” mouthpiece and very nice original leather covered case (one hasp did come loose, but has been fixed).  The slide bore is .485/.485, with a 7 1/4″ bell flare and a narrow kranz on the bell rim. This model/style horn is regarded by many as the best jazz horn ever made; the construction is excellent.  To me, it is one of the best!  This horn has the ability to play softly and yet can be pushed to be loud and ‘snotty’ if desired.  It has great intonation and response and is an excellent horn for a serious student or professional…Love the way this horn plays!  Thanks for looking and check out our other items! Please note:  We accept returns within two weeks; Buyer pays return shipping. **Please note: if choosing FedEx for shipping, please provide physical address, not PO Box.
